BLUE REALM STUDIOS Briefing on Prop Fabrication
Project Arbiter has been blessed with the talents of many skilled crew members and today we are happy to bring you a Q&A with Devin White, one of the founders of Blue Realm Studios which is responsible for the fabrication of the XO-7 Arbiter invisibility suit, his “Inferno” knife, and the skull-faced Arbiter “Reaper” helmet. Here is what Devin had to say…
Q: How did Blue Realm Studios come about?
A: Blue Realm Studios was founded in 2007 one year after I met my partner in crime, Adam Grumbo. At that time I was working on a hand sculpted Master Chief costume replica based on the popular video game Halo and had posted some pictures on the web. Adam had just created the 405th.com and invited me to join and show off my progress. Through email and inviting him to my wedding, Adam and I became great friends. Together with our talents we created Blue Realm Studios. I’ve always wanted to create movie props and costumes ever since I was a child and Blue Realm is that outlet for me. I’ve grown from making cardboard and duct tape costumes to utilizing the same methods that the big time studios use these days.
Our Friends over at Robot Entertainment wanted some booth bling for PAX East to promote their new game Orcs Must Die!. We were honored to help as we’re big fans of what the guys at Robot Entertainment do.
The creative team sent over some concept art for the of the crest of “The Order” aka.. the good guys in their new game.
We created the base of the shield out of Poly Dense Foam and hard coated it and gave it a very unique stylized paint job to follow allowing with the new world there creative team has worked so hard to create. If you get a chance to go to PAX east make sure to swing by booth 761 to check out all the fun stuff that is Orcs Must Die!.
You can read up on the details of the game, details about what to expect at PAX, and check out some behind the scenes pics of the creation of the shield booth bling we made on Robot Entertainments blog http://www.robotentertainment.com/blog/detail/Play-Orcs-Must-Die-PAX-East-Next-Week.
We sat down with Michael Chance, the writer/director of ‘Project Arbiter’ to discuss the movie and its potentially expansive future as a feature-length trilogy.

In late March of 2010, we were introduced to a teaser trailer for a short concept film entitled Project Arbiter. The teaser got us excited to learn more, so we spoke with writer/director Michael Chance about the project.
The 20-minute concept film is designed to pique interest in a proposed feature trilogy that includes trans-media integration — meaning video games, toys and novels. As the director of a number of short films and commercial projects, Chance is ready for the next level, talking on a potentially career-defining franchise. If a studio is as impressed as we are by the work he has done on Project Arbiter so far, expect big things in the future.
The short film is still a mystery (more…)

I’m making some progress on the parts of the AR. I milled out the counter/scope, scope rail, stock butt, and cut out the space for the mag to fit nicely into the AR body. Check out the progress pics.
Ok you guys have to check out the video Adam put together for me. This is some sweet action of the making of the new assault rifle from halo reach. The video is of me milling out the body of the weapon out of SignFoam a high density foam. After each part is milled out by the cnc machine I hand sand them and start the prep work of sealing up the foam and doing hard coat and fine smooth sanding.
The original 3d model was built by Sloan Hood, the video editing was done by Adam Grumbo
Well its been awhile since I did any halo props… So I thought I’d give the old Assault riffle a shot. The original model was created by Sloan Hood. I took that model and converted it to a solidworks format. I thought I would start with a small part first and see how it goes. Check out the model and the progress on the magazine clip.
